Two upcoming Land Trust outings will offer members a “sneak peak” of a new trail that is being developed on the Carmel River’s south bank. The official opening of the trail is still a few weeks away, so these interpretive walks with BSLT Director of Conservation Donna Meyers are a great opportunity to be among the first to experience the beautiful landscape of the Carmel River and to learn more about its significance.

“As the Carmel River project has evolved, members have been hearing about these trails for a long time,” says Todd Farrington, Community Affairs Manager. “What’s really exciting is that the body of wild places we can explore, and our ability to access them, is growing before our eyes.”

Farrington describes walking the trail as a magical experience. “The trail connects you to a tremendously significant place, both culturally and ecologically” he says. “It’s a gentle and beautiful path.”

The trail moves through riparian habitat, offering views of the river, meadows, and the edge of Palo Corona Regional Park.

These interpretive walks will take place on Saturday, August 27 and Saturday, September 10, 2011. For more information and to make your reservation, call Amber Sanchez Leon, 625-5523, ext.103.

“The views are breathtaking,” says Eileen Cross, Carmel River Project Manager. “These are perspectives not previously available to hikers. You can see a big section of Carmel stone in the side of a mountain. It’s just so peaceful.”
