November 6, 2010 Outing: Kingfishers to Flycatchers: A fun morning of listening and observing at the Songbird Preserve
BSLT members are invited to experience a rare opportunity to explore the Land Trust’s 12-acre Songbird Preserve in Carmel Valley, where dense riparian forest, floodplain and active river channel habitats sustain a number of migratory and resident birds and other animals and plants. On Saturday, November 6, 2010, Cammy Chabre, BSLT’s Conservation Projects Manager, will lead a hike to observe the restored riparian habitats of the Preserve. Cammy will be joined by Craig Hohenberger, Director of the Hilton Bialek Habitat program at Carmel Middle School, to check the Preserve’s mist nets and discuss the area’s bird population. Depending on the day’s net activity, you may be able to see a neotropical migrant such as a Pacific-slope flycatcher up close and in-hand, as Cammy and Craig discuss bird conservation strategies. Binoculars are a must as you will also have the opportunity to explore river areas known to support steelhead trout, western pond turtles and red-legged frogs.
Day and time: Saturday, November 6, 2010, 8:00 A.M. to 11:30 P.M.
Meeting place: 8:00 a.m. Wild Bird Center, 910 Del Monte Center, Monterey
Please RSVP by November 1 to:
