Join the Land Trust and Explore Wildness!
The arrival of spring brings an abundance of new hiking opportunities to Big Sur Land Trust members this year. Three types of outdoor experiences await members: personal self-guided hikes, custom group hikes, and half-day adventure outings.
Glen Deven Ranch and Mitteldorf Preserve are two of the Land Trust’s most spectacular and beloved properties, and members are invited to explore and enjoy these beautiful landscapes either on their own, or accompanied by a knowledgeable hike leader for a specially customized outdoor experience. Custom group hikes can be focused on a specific topic, such as birding, wildlife, or trees, for example. Personal self-guided hiking and custom group hikes are available 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Please note that there is a suggested 8-person minimum for custom group hikes.
“These new hiking programs offer Land Trust members more flexibility in planning their hikes on BSLT properties,” says Amber Sanchez Leon, Philanthropy Assistant. “If members would like a personal tour of Glen Deven or Mitteldorf, the custom group hike program can put them in touch with one of our trained hike leaders who will help create for them a truly exciting hiking experience.”
The Land Trust’s Half-Day Adventure program features distinctive educational hikes led by program experts. Upcoming outings include Experience Carmel River, an interpretive walk with Donna Meyers, BSLT Director of Conservation. This 4-5 hour moderate hike will offer an update on Carmel River trails, restoration and education projects. Saturday, August 27 and Saturday, September 10. Expect some elevation gain and frequent stops.
The popular Hikes by Moonlight are an unforgettable experience as twilight gives way to the rising of the full moon over historic Marks Ranch. Pack a picnic dinner, bring a flashlight, and bask in the magic of the moon. Wednesday, June 15 and Friday, July 15.
